Updating your device? What steps should you take before you do?

So, you’ve got an update pending on your device. While the process of updating may be different depending on whether it’s an iPhone, iPad, Mac, PC or laptop, the steps you take beforehand are the same. With updates being released so often, it can sometimes feel like a long and daunting process to go through. Below is a step-by-step process on what you should do before updating.

  1. Confirm that your device is able to handle the update
    1. Make sure your device meets all of the prerequisite requirements before beginning the update
  • Make a backup of your device
    • It’s always good to have a backup to roll back to, not only when you’re updating, but in case you lose your device and need your data to be restored
  • Make sure the backup of your device works!
    • Do you have a spare device? It would be a great idea to make sure your backup is able to restore your device to how it was before the update

Once you’ve completed the steps above, you should generally be good to go ahead and update your device. You’ll also have a backup to “roll back” to in case you run into any future issues.
